Holiday Magic with CSDA/CCAD
Have you heard of the Canadian Society of Decorative Arts? Their mandate is pretty awesome, so let Acme Animal introduce this unique organization to you;
The Canadian Society of Decorative Arts/ Cercle canadien des arts décoratifs (CSDA/CCAD) is a Canadian charitable organization founded in 1981 by the generous support of the McDonald Stewart Foundation. CSDA/CCAD provides the decorative arts community with opportunities to meet other enthusiasts, collectors, professionals, and students who collectively delight in, and give visibility to, the diverse spectrum of material culture and design.
Sounds intriguing, right! But what do they do exactly? The CSDA/CCAD promotes and engages with the decorative arts community, from makers to fans alike. They have a quarterly e-newsletter filled with Canadian content, from quirky to profound, and always beautiful. They also publish the magazine 'Ornamentum' twice a year, "the only magazine devoted to exploring the large spectrum of decorative arts, material culture and design in Canada". Still wondering what decorative arts are though? Think designed objects with a practical or useful nature, often with cultural, aesthetic or historical value: furniture, ceramics, glass, and even metalwork.
In fact, they recently reached out to Acme Animal about our metal sculptures!
CSDA/CCAD Holiday Campaign
Why was the CSDA/CCAD interested in Acme Animal? They have a Holiday Campaign underway and they wanted to include some of our metal ornaments as gifts for anyone who donates $75 or more to the cause. Every year they commission a new ornament to include with their campaign from a Canadian Artist. This year, their ornament comes from yours truly and we couldn't be happier! What a great honour to be asked to be the face of Canadian artists and makers this year and to broaden awareness for decorative art and design in Canada.
So please consider adding the CSDA/CCAD to your list of great causes to support this year. Don't wait to donate, as quantities of the beautiful hand formed, one-of-a-kind animal metal sculpture ornaments are limited! The Holiday Campaign is a great way to support Canadian artists and learn more about the vibrant art community we have in Canada.
